McCarthy Practices, Role Unclear with Giants

Coach John Harbaugh has confirmed Winston will start Sunday against Arizona, though it's unclear how long he'll remain in that role. The Giants haven't specified whether McCarthy or practice squad QB Jake Haener will back up Winston. The team gave up a fifth-round pick for McCarthy, suggesting coaching staff believes he can make a difference.

'Very talented player (who) is going to make us a stronger football team,' Harbaugh said. Winston performed well in his first start, going 14 of 22 for 118 yards in a 12-7 victory over Tennessee. esporist.com
